Türkiye’s opposition alliance has named the chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) as their joint candidate for the upcoming presidential election, anticipated to be held on May 14.

In a joint assertion following their assembly within the capital Ankara on Monday, the six-party opposition bloc introduced Kemal Kilicdaroglu as their joint candidate for the presidential election.

The alliance of six opposition events contains CHP, Good (IYI) Party, Felicity Party (SP), Future Party (GP), Democrat Party (DP), and Democracy and Progress (DEVA) Party.

Meral Aksener, head of the IYI Party, rejoined the opposition alliance and attended the coalition’s assembly on Monday.

Aksener stop the bloc on Friday resulting from her unwillingness to help the selection of Kilicdaroglu as a presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.

A former inside minister whose social gathering is the second largest within the opposition bloc, Aksener was reported to have favoured both of the favored mayors of Istanbul or Ankara as an alternative of Kilicdaroglu.

Kilicdaroglu has did not win a nationwide election within the 13 years he has led the CHP. 

About the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Türkiye, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signaled that the elections could be held on May 14, when residents will select the president in addition to all 600 members of parliament.

In 2017, Turkish voters determined via a referendum to change from a parliamentary system to an govt presidential system of governance.

As of 2018, Türkiye did away with the premiership and totally shifted to a presidential system of presidency, which Erdogan gained.
