Russia, Ukraine exchange 100 prisoners each in recent swap

The two warring nations, Ukraine and Russia returned roughly 100 prisoners within the newest trade, the international locations mentioned Monday.

Kyiv and Moscow have periodically carried out prisoner swaps since Russia invaded Ukraine greater than a 12 months in the past.

“We are returning 100 of our people,” the Ukrainian president’s chief of employees Andriy Yermak mentioned on Telegram.

“They are military people, sailors, border guards, national guardsmen.”

Yermak mentioned the trade included troops who held out in Mariupol — the devastated port metropolis captured by Russia final spring — and that some had been “seriously injured.”

He known as the trade “difficult” and thanked officers for “doing what may often seem impossible.”

Yermak posted a video of ladies in uniform being greeted with flowers.

Moscow mentioned it had returned 106 of its servicemen in trade.

“As a result of negotiations, 106 Russian soldiers were returned from territories under Kyiv control,” the Russian protection ministry mentioned.

It mentioned the airplane will take them to Moscow “for treatment and rehabilitation.”

“All those that were freed will be given the necessary medical and psychological help,” the ministry added.

The earlier Russian-Ukrainian prisoner trade was final month. Authorities introduced on March 7 that 130 Ukrainians had been swapped for 90 Russian servicemen.
