President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reopened Istanbul’s iconic Blue Mosque on Friday, the primary day of the Muslim vacation of Ramadan Bayram, often known as Eid al-Fitr, following a restoration effort that started in 2018.
Attending the mosque’s opening ceremony, Erdoğan described it as “one of the most important symbols of Istanbul.”
Hayrullah Çelebi, regional supervisor of the Foundations Directorate General, informed Anadolu Agency (AA) the directorate follows a precept of protecting mosques present process restoration open to worship and visits.
Çelebi stated that other than a quick five-month closure over the previous 5 years, the Blue Mosque has remained in operation, albeit with restricted capability.
The mosque, known as Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, was constructed by Ottoman Sultan Ahmet I between 1609 and 1616 within the sq. carrying his identify in Istanbul, the Ottoman capital. It is the one mosque in Türkiye with six minarets.
Europeans name it the “Blue Mosque” owing to its stunning blue, inexperienced and white tiles.
