Units from Belarus returned residence from Russia on Saturday after coaching on how one can use the Iskander tactical missile system to launch nuclear weapons, the Belarusian defence ministry mentioned.
It made the announcement precisely 4 weeks after President Vladimir Putin mentioned Russia would station tactical nuclear weapons in neighbouring Belarus, sending a warning to NATO over its navy help for Ukraine.
In early February, Belarus mentioned its armed forces had been in autonomous management of Iskander cellular guided missile techniques that Russia had already supplied.
But when the models had been despatched to Russia on April 4 for extra coaching, Minsk made clear their classes would come with research of “the maintenance and use of tactical nuclear warheads of the Iskander missile defense system”.
Those models returned to Belarus on Saturday, the defence ministry mentioned on Telegram.
Russia has not given a transparent timetable for shifting tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, however Putin mentioned the development of storage amenities must be full by the beginning of July.
It would be the first deployment of a part of Russia’s nuclear arsenal outdoors its borders because the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
