Lebanese-Canadian academic receives life sentence for 1980 Paris synagogue bombing

A Lebanese-Canadian college professor was discovered responsible in absentia Friday for a bomb assault on a Paris synagogue greater than 40 years in the past.

Hassan Diab, 69, who was the one individual accused within the assault, was given a life sentence and an arrest warrant was issued.

The assault in 1980 resulted within the deaths of 4 individuals and injured 46. It was the primary lethal assault in opposition to a Jewish goal on French soil since World War II.

Diab didn’t attend the trial in Paris and his authorized group claimed he was wrongly recognized.

The success of a possible new extradition course of for Diab is unsure and such a transfer might doubtlessly pressure the connection between Canada and France.
