NATO says it scrambled jets Sunday to track Russian patrol aircraft over North Atlantic

NATO fighter jets scrambled on Sunday to trace a Russian maritime patrol plane that violated air security guidelines over the North Atlantic, the alliance mentioned on Tuesday.

“The (Russian) aircraft was not complying with international air safety rules and could pose a danger to other aircraft in the region,” NATO’s air command mentioned in a tweet, specifying the airplane as a Tu-142 with the NATO code identify BEAR-F.

The scrambled jets had been fast response alert fighters from Britain and Norway, in keeping with NATO.
