Türkiye stated on Tuesday that it gave the “necessary response” after Greek plane tried to intrude in a NATO coaching mission carried out in worldwide airspace over the Aegean Sea.
“Combat and support aircraft of our Air Force and the AWACS aircraft commissioned by NATO performed the NEXUS ACE training mission, which was notified to all allies 24 hours in advance, in international airspace over the Aegean Sea on Monday,” the National Defense Ministry stated in an announcement.
Although Greek plane tried to stop the mission, the Turkish Air Force continued its job for the profitable completion of the mission, it stated.
Türkiye, a NATO member for over 70 years, has complained of repeated provocative actions and rhetoric by Greece within the area in latest months, together with arming islands close to Turkish shores which are demilitarized underneath treaty obligations. It says that such strikes frustrate its good religion efforts for peace.
