Turkish Central Bank chief Hafize Gaye Erkan steps down

Hafize Gaye Erkan, the primary lady governor of Türkiye’s Central Bank, introduced her resignation on Friday, saying that the financial insurance policies have began bearing their fruits, as Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated the insurance policies will proceed with dedication.

In a message posted on X, Erkan stated she’s been proudly serving because the chair of the Central Bank since June 8, 2023, and the rise in Türkiye’s reserves and financial information and indicators on inflation show this success.

She thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and expressed her gratitude for his assist throughout her time period.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Şimşek stated Erkan’s choice is a private choice and he or she took it at her personal discretion.

“I respect her decision and thank her for her service to our country,” Şimşek stated.
