Over 2,000 artifacts seized from passenger bus in Istanbul

Anti-Smuggling Crimes Branch confiscated 2,154 historic artifacts (cash) from a passenger on a bus in Ümraniye district, Istanbul.

The historic cash have been seized within the trunk of the intercity passenger bus, which was intercepted by police groups in Ümraniye, Istanbul. The suspect, who allegedly delivered the cash to the bus firm, was apprehended in Güngören throughout the operation.

Meanwhile, some 936 cash have been recovered throughout a search operation on the suspect’s home.

Acting on a tip-off that there have been historic artifacts hidden contained in the trunk of a automobile owned by an intercity bus firm in Ümraniye district on Jan. 12, anti-smuggling personnel carried out the search operation.

The suspect, whose tackle was decided later, was arrested and brought into custody on the identical day and one other 936 cash have been seized from his home. In each operations, a complete of three,090 cash have been confiscated. The arrested suspect was taken to the police station for additional investigation.

A judicial trial has been began in opposition to the suspect for smuggling historic artifacts and for violating the “Law on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets No. 2863.”
