Germany upset over weak Russia sanctions impact

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed disappointment that Western sanctions towards Russia over the conflict in Ukraine weren’t having an “economic impact.”

The United States and the European Union have levied unprecedented sanctions towards Moscow to restrict Russia’s capacity to finance its conflict effort.

“Economic sanctions should have an economic impact. But that is not the case,” Baerbock instructed journalist Stephen Lamby in an interview for his new guide “Emergency” printed Thursday.

“The logic of democracy does not work in autocracies,” she stated for the guide, which examines the response of the German authorities to the battle in Ukraine.
