UN chief, others concerned about Russia’s suspension of grain deal

The U.N. Secretary-General, the U.S. and Germany expressed concern after Russia introduced its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative after claiming that “none of Moscow’s demands have been met.”

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regretted Moscow’s choice.

“Today’s decision by the Russian Federation will strike a blow to people in need everywhere,” Guterres informed reporters.

“Hundreds of millions of people face hunger and consumers are confronting a global cost-of-living crisis. They will pay the price,” he added.

Guterres mentioned that the U.N. will nonetheless attempt to facilitate unimpeded entry to international markets for meals, fertilizers from Ukraine and Russia.

The White House mentioned that Russia’s suspension of a pact that has allowed the Black Sea export of grain from Ukraine “will worsen food security and harm millions.”
