Mary Quant, the style queen of Britain‘s Swinging Sixties who popularised the miniskirt, died on Thursday on the age of 93, her household stated.
Quant “died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK, this morning”, they stated in a press release, calling her “one of the most internationally recognised fashion designers of the 20th Century and an outstanding innovator”.
Quant was one of the crucial influential figures within the vogue scene of the Sixties and is credited with making vogue accessible to the plenty along with her glossy, streamlined and vibrant designs.
Born in south-east London on February 11 1930, Dame Mary was the daughter of two Welsh faculty academics.
She gained a diploma within the Fifties in artwork training at Goldsmiths College, the place she met her husband Alexander Plunket Greene, who later helped set up her model.
Dame Mary was taken on as an apprentice to a milliner earlier than making her personal garments and in 1955 opened Bazaar, a boutique on the Kings Road in Chelsea.
