Merve Dizdar becomes 1st Turkish to win best female actress at Cannes

Türkiye’s Merve Dizdar received finest actress on the Cannes Film Festival with “About Dry Grasses,” (“Kuru Otlar Üstune”).

The drama focuses on a younger instructor who hopes to be appointed to the Turkish metropolis Istanbul after his obligatory project at a small village in japanese Türkiye. The movie, collectively produced by the Turkish public broadcaster TRT and ARTE France, premiered Friday. The greater than three-hour movie stars Deniz Celiloğlu, Merve Dizdar, Musab Ekici and Ece Bağcı.

The award for finest director went to Vietnamese-born French movie director and screenwriter Tran Anh Hung for the “Pot-au-Feu” (“La Passion De Dodin Bouffant”). Set in 1885, the movie depicts a romance between a prepare dinner and the connoisseur she works for.

French director Justine Triet has received the Palme d’Or for “Anatomy of a Fall” (“L’anatomie d’une chute”).

A complete of 19 movies had been chosen to run for the celebrated award Palme d’Or on the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off Tuesday.

The award for finest screenplay went to Japanese Yuji Sakamoto for “Kaibutsu” (“Monster”), directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda.

The Cannes Film Festival is yearly held in Cannes, France, which previews new movies of all genres, together with documentaries, from world wide.
