Free agent Brittney Griner formally re-signed with the Phoenix Mercury, the workforce introduced Tuesday.
The contract is for one 12 months, a number of retailers reported, with monetary phrases not revealed.
Griner, 32, has performed 9 seasons with the Mercury however did not play in 2022 due to her arrest and conviction in Russia on drug costs. She returned to the United States in December after 10 months in Russia‘s arms following an extended negotiation of a prisoner swap.
After her launch, Griner stated she meant to return to the WNBA and the Mercury.
“It’s a great day for all of us to announce that Brittney Griner has officially signed to play for the Mercury in 2023,” common supervisor Jim Pitman stated in an announcement. “We missed BG each day that she was gone and, whereas basketball was not our major concern, her presence on the ground, in our locker room, round our group, and inside our neighborhood was enormously missed.

In 2021, Griner began 30 video games for the Mercury, averaging 20.5 factors, 9.5 rebounds and a pair of.7 assists. The Mercury chosen her with the No. 1 general choose in 2013.
