Former Uruguay midfielder Fabian O’Neill, who performed for Cagliari and Nacional on the membership stage, died on Sunday on the age of 49, Uruguay’s soccer federation stated.
ESPN reported that O’Neill had been admitted to hospital on Saturday in a coma with bleeding because of continual liver illness.
The midfielder made 19 appearances for Uruguay and was a part of the squad on the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, though he didn’t play.
