Marquez faults Bagnaia’s mistake for costly crash at Portuguese GP

Gresini Racing’s Marc Marquez blamed Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia for his or her collision on the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday. The two had been vying for fifth place once they made contact on a flip, resulting in the crash. Bagnaia couldn’t end the race, whereas Marquez salvaged sixteenth place, simply lacking out on scoring factors.

Despite the incident, MotoGP stewards opted to not penalize both rider, a call that each six-time champion Marquez and reigning champion Bagnaia accepted.

“I told the stewards it’s a racing incident on the very limit. But the stewards must decide what is the limit,” Marquez advised reporters.

“For me, it was a mistake from Pecco (Bagnaia), however not simply the incident as a result of, in the long run, he tried to return again. It was too optimistic, and call might occur. He was struggling so much, particularly with the rear tires.

“In the end, when three or four laps remain, you know you will lose the position. So it’s unnecessary to come back in that aggressive mode, but he decided this, and the consequence for Ducati is zero points.”

Bagnaia admitted he was in bother as a result of he didn’t have the tempo to compete for a podium, however he added that the overtake he tried was not dangerous.

“When a rider in front of you who you are battling with goes wide, what do you want to do? Overtake him again to take more points. So, for me, it wasn’t risky,” he stated.

“I attempted to be in entrance as a lot as attainable, however when Pedro (Acosta) arrived, he was too quick. When Marc arrived, he simply tried to overhaul and went large.

“I tried to close the line. He crossed his line and we collided. It’s something that makes me angry, but it’s normal. It’s a racing incident, and we must move on to the next one.”

Bagnaia’s crash value him dearly as he fell from first within the championship to fourth, 23 factors behind chief Jorge Martin, who gained Sunday’s race after taking the lead on the opening lap. Marquez is sixth, an extra 10 factors behind.
