On Saturday, girls’s tennis legend Serena Williams shall be acknowledged on the NAACP Image Awards for her spectacular athletic accomplishments, entrepreneurial successes and unwavering dedication to uplifting her neighborhood.
The NAACP introduced Thursday that Williams will obtain the Jackie Robinson Sports award through the ceremony, which can air reside Saturday on BET. The award acknowledges people in sports activities for top achievement in athletics together with their pursuit of social justice, civil rights and neighborhood involvement.
Previous honorees embrace Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Magic Johnson, Wilma Rudolph and the Harlem Globetrotters.
“From her record-breaking wins on the tennis court to her business acumen to her philanthropic endeavors, she has set the bar for athletes everywhere,” said Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP. He said Williams is the “quintessential instance of black excellence.”
Williams is thought to be one of many sport’s best athletes of all time. She holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She has gained Wimbledon seven occasions as a singles competitor.
Outside of tennis, Williams was an govt producer on the Oscar-nominated movie “King Richard,” a biopic based on her family. She launched her own venture capital firm and fashion brand that focuses on women’s empowerment. She recently published a children’s book, “The Adventures of Qai Qai,” and teamed up with two veterans to launch a cruelty-free topical ache aid and every day muscle care options designed to reimagine restoration.
Queen Latifah will host the 54th NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, California. The ceremony honors entertainers, athletes and writers of colour.
