Ericsson to cut 8,500 jobs in largest telecoms industry layoff

Ericsson on Friday introduced it will minimize about 8,500 jobs worldwide as a part of a cost-cutting program, news businesses reported, marking the biggest layoff to hit the telecoms trade.

The Swedish telecom gear maker joins expertise corporations comparable to Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet, which have laid off 1000’s of workers, citing financial situations.

While Ericsson didn’t disclose which geography can be most affected, analysts had predicted that North America would possible be most affected and rising markets comparable to India the least.

The firm stated in December it will minimize prices by 9 billion crowns ($880 million) by the tip of 2023 as demand slows in some markets, together with North America.

“It is our obligation to take this cost out to remain competitive,” Ekholm stated within the memo. “Our biggest enemy right now may be complacency.”
