The French authorities has determined to ban the set up and use of “recreational” functions on the work telephones of its 2.5 million public sector workers, the Public Service Ministry introduced on Friday.
This resolution issues particularly TikTok, Twitter and Instagram, based on Franceinfo news channel.
Although no “fixed and definitive” checklist of functions has been determined, as unnamed employees of the minister Stanislas Guerini advised the news channel, three main classes are affected. They are “leisure,” “gaming” and “streaming” functions.
France is following a number of Western establishments and governments which have already banned or restricted the usage of Chinese social community TikTok on work gadgets.
The functions affected by the ban “do not have sufficient levels of cybersecurity and data protection,” the ministry stated in an announcement. According to the ministry, they “may pose a risk to the privacy of these administrations and their public employees.”
In response to the ban, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated Friday that the Chinese authorities “has never asked or will ask any company or individual to collect or hand over data from abroad in a way that violates local laws.”
