3,600 nests of Caretta carettas observed off S. Türkiye’s coast

About 3,600 nests of loggerhead sea turtles, also referred to as Caretta caretta, had been noticed on the seashores in Türkiye’s Mediterranean coastal province of Antalya.

Under the “Monitoring and Protecting Sea Turtles” venture, which was ready beneath the management of Hacettepe University Lecturer and Ecological Research Association (EKAD) President Ali Fuat Canbolat, the nesting processes of Caretta carettas and their offspring assembly with the ocean are monitored on the seashores of Belek and Kızılot.

Some 2,000 of the nests had been discovered within the Belek district and 1,600 others within the Kızılıot district of Antalya, considered one of Europe’s largest Caretta caretta nesting areas.

From the eggs that the turtles buried beneath the sand as of May, offspring started hatching.

The offspring of the turtles, that are among the many animals liable to extinction on the planet, got here out of their eggs and reached the blue waters after a tough journey.

Kerem Yekta Atatunç, the venture assistant at EKAD advised to AA that they establish the nests by conducting walks on the seashores within the talked about districts. “Compared to previous years, we experienced an increase in the number of nests,” he famous.

The loggerhead turtles are threatened by predators corresponding to foxes, canines, seagulls and crabs on this difficult journey, in addition to by the rubbish and plastics left by individuals on the seaside.
