Divers unite for biodiversity protection in Türkiye’s Gulf of Izmit

In an endeavor to safeguard the ecological wonders beneath the floor, a bunch of divers not too long ago launched into a journey into the waters of the Gulf of Izmit located within the northwestern area of Türkiye.

As a part of conservation efforts led by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, a bunch of sea organisms had been noticed, together with corals, sea anemones, sea stars, sea pens and mollusks.

Tahsin Ceylan, Anadolu’s underwater cinematographer, and his staff Murat Kulakaç, Mehtap Akbaş Çiftçi and Mustafa Atay dove to the designated factors on the shoreline with the help of the Kocaeli Coast Guard Command.

The staff, inspecting the ecosystem within the space, captured footage of corals, sea anemones, starfish, sea pens and mollusks.

Ceylan and the municipality administration proceed their efforts to incorporate the area, which is residence to many species and has an undisturbed ecosystem, within the “Promotion and Protection Area.”

“The Eskihisar coast is a protected space with a novel ecosystem the place species aren’t harmed and there’s minimal boat anchoring. There are wholesome populations of corals, sea anemones, starfish, sea pens and mollusks. We wish to embody this space within the ‘Promotion and Protection Area,’” Ceylan mentioned.

Researchers devoted their research to famed Ottoman-era painter and archaeologist Osman Hamdi Bey, who’s acknowledged as a pioneer in preserving underwater cultural heritage.
