Prisoners in Britain raise funds for Türkiye earthquake survivors

Inmates serving jail phrases within the metropolis of Manchester in Britain launched a charity marketing campaign to assist earthquake survivors in Türkiye’s southeast.

Donations collected by prisoners at Dovegate jail for the advantage of earthquake victims have been delivered to the Turkish Consulate General in Manchester.

Consul-General Seyfi Onur Sayın instructed Anadolu that jail officers knowledgeable the consulate of their want to launch the marketing campaign.

“We thanked them and accepted the offer,” Sayın stated, underlining that the prisoners donating their pocket cash had “a special value.”

Visiting the jail after the donations have been collected, he stated, “We had the opportunity to thank the prisoners and administrators who organized the campaign, and we received the check.”

Sayın stated the verify was already deposited to the Turkish catastrophe administration company AFAD’s account.

“This aid is a good example of the solidarity displayed by the people and institutions of the two countries in difficult times,” he added.

On Feb. 6, magnitude 7.7 and seven.6 quakes struck quite a few Turkish provinces and northwest Syria, claiming over 50,000 lives.

Around 14 million individuals in Türkiye have been affected by the quakes in addition to many others in northern Syria.
