Tons of drugs, bootleg seized in monthslong ops in Istanbul

Anti-Smuggling Crimes Branch Directorate (KOM) groups of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department have seized some 110 tons of unlawful cigarettes, alcohol and tobacco merchandise in operations carried out throughout the province within the final seven months, police sources revealed Thursday.

In operations undertaken between Aug. 3, 2022, and Feb. 27, 2023, at a number of addresses, warehouses and workplaces, merchandise together with unlawful cigarettes, hookah, ethyl and methyl alcohol, digital cigarettes, and empty and full bottles used within the unlawful manufacturing of alcoholic drinks have been seized.

A complete of 110 tons of supplies seized because of the long-term police operations have been destroyed in close by Kocaeli province.

Separately, on Thursday, anti-smuggling department groups carried out an operation in Izmir’s Menemen district and recovered some 20,200 liters of illicit gas after studying a couple of suspicious close by farm. Forensic procedures have been initiated towards two folks detained.
