Turkish authorities seize dozens of tarantulas found in cargo package

Customs enforcement groups have just lately intercepted a cargo containing 76 tarantulas despatched from Poland to Marmaris, Türkiye, in accordance with a press release by the Ministry of Commerce.

The cargo, initially declared as “aquarium plants” on its documentation, aroused suspicion through the danger evaluation carried out by the customs enforcement groups. Subsequently, a bodily inspection of the cargo was carried out.

During the inspection, it was found that the cargo contained 76 tarantulas, which had been individually housed in small glass tubes inside a protecting packaging of styrofoam and newsprint.

Following the required procedures, the tarantulas had been safely handed over to the Biology Department of Sıtkı Koçman University.

The related authorities will possible examine the incident additional to find out the supposed objective and legality of the cargo.
