Turkish students develop AI to recognize traffic signboards

Students within the japanese province of Erzurum developed a challenge referred to as “AI Supported New Generation Driver Warning System,” a man-made intelligence system that acknowledges visitors signboards on the highway and cautions drivers.

While sharing the details about the system, pc engineering college students Hira Beril Küçük and Oğuz Can Özdemir, at Atatürk University’s Computer Engineering Department mentioned the system takes a snapshot of the signboards as much as 20 meters (65.62 toes) away with a digicam built-in into the car and transmits info to the show mounted on the entrance console of the car. The picture on the show display is mirrored on the ghost display positioned on the windscreen and is transformed into an immediate visible warning.

Özdemir acknowledged that their challenge emerged out of necessity after they witnessed an accident on the college campus grounds.

“We developed the system together with our adviser. The system reacts to every signboard it sees up to 20 meters away and also shows the speed of the driver on its screen. We came second place in this year’s Istanbul Teknofest and got positive feedback. We have achieved successful results in our test drives,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Küçük mentioned their goal was to warn drivers and guarantee protected touring with the challenge, noting that they plan to extend the machine’s visibility vary and response velocity by utilizing higher-quality cameras for long-distance drivers.

“We’re constantly working to make our project better so that it can be installed on all types of vehicles and is simple for everyone to use.”
