Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry plans to bolster its fleet of plane and helicopters as a precaution towards the power difficulty of forest fires – which affected Mediterranean city resorts alongside the coast of Muğla and Antalya provinces in 2021, a senior official introduced Thursday.

Recep Ateş from the General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) acknowledged that almost 70 plane shall be deployed in weak areas alongside the shoreline and inland to fight blazes.

Ateş, who participated in a workshop on the safety of the organic range in northwestern Çanakkale province, advised reporters that they proceed to organize for the 2023 forest fireplace season.

“Apart from that, we added 300 more vehicles to our new fleet of land vehicles, water tankers and pickup trucks,” he added.

“This season we will have a fleet of nearly 70 aircraft. Some of them are being changed as they have been leased. They are to be deployed along the coastline from Hatay to Çanakkale and Istanbul, which are known as high-risk areas,” Ateş defined.

Adding that the plane shall be stationed in fire-prone forest places such Kütahya, Balıkesir, Bursa, Eskişehir and Ankara, Ateş stated that partial deployment would start as of May, and others will begin in June.

“According to the sensitivity and risk considerations, some aircraft will commence missions in July. From May 15 to June 1, our ground vehicles and teams will begin assuming protective positions across the country. Our watchtowers will commence monitoring missions starting on May 1,” Ateş famous.

In addition, in accordance with experiences from Demirören News Agency (DHA), two native and nationwide T-70 helicopters, 4 Air Tractor mannequin airplanes and one manned reconnaissance plane shall be delivered to the OGM by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) in a ceremony scheduled for the primary week of May.

Within the scope of the contract between the 2 events, 10 native helicopters shall be delivered to the OGM inside 5 years.

Apart from plane and helicopter-based aerial help to comprise potential forest fires, in accordance with DHA, eight unmanned aerial autos (UAVs) are set to spice up the fleets.
