Underwater waste removed from seabed of southern Türkiye’s Kaş

Waste stations resembling rubbish containers located within the sea in southern Türkiye’s Antalya had been not too long ago cleaned with the intention to stop air pollution.

As a part of the “Don’t Stay Indifferent” undertaking, waste stations formed like cages had been positioned underwater in Hidayet Cove, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported Thursday.

These waste stations positioned within the sea in the beginning of the summer season had been dropped at the harbor by boat and emptied.

Various types of waste had been seen within the cages together with bottles, plates, plastic water pipes, fishing nets, in addition to a sink stone and a seaside umbrella.

Harun Süer, a member of the board of administrators of the Underwater Cleaning and Awareness Movement Association (STH), said that the undertaking was initiated in June in collaboration with Kaş Governorship, Kaş Municipality, STH and Kaş Underwater Association (KASAD).

Süer recalled that the undertaking concerned establishing rubbish assortment stations in order that divers might go away the supplies they encountered underwater after they selected to not carry them or after they could not carry them for an prolonged interval.

He added that they began the underwater cleansing motion with this undertaking and stated: “We lowered the cages into the water at the beginning of the season, and today we removed them. We plan to build new cages and place them underwater soon.”
