At least 73 individuals have been killed and dozens of others injured when a hearth ripped via a five-story constructing in central Johannesburg Thursday.
Another 50 have been injured, some affected by smoke inhalation, and have been taken for therapy at native hospitals, Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi mentioned.
“The death toll is at 73 … (including) seven children,” Emergency Management Services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi mentioned, with some left burned past recognition.
The youngest sufferer was aged lower than 2 years outdated, he mentioned.
Firefighters on the scene had put out the flames and search and restoration operations have been ongoing.
“We are moving floor by floor conducting these body recoveries,” Mulaudzi advised native broadcaster ENCA.
