Azerbaijan condemns Armenian fire on military positions in Karabakh

Azerbaijan on Monday condemned Armenian gunfire on its navy positions within the Zangilan area of Karabakh, which it stated injured one its servicemen.

The Foreign Ministry in an announcement demanded Yerevan to desert its “military provocation” and its “increasingly aggressive rhetoric,” and cease taking steps that enhance tensions within the area.

“Armenia should stop abusing the presence of the European Union civilian monitoring mission in its territories,” the assertion stated, referring to the 27-member bloc’s mission launched final month.

“The political and military leadership of Armenia bears full responsibility for the provocations against the peace-building measures carried out by Azerbaijan in the region,” the assertion added.

A Russia-brokered truce between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been in power since a 2020 conflict that pressured Yerevan to cede territories it had occupied for almost three a long time. Since then, a course of to normalize ties between the 2 neighbors is ongoing. Tensions, nonetheless, have flared up in latest weeks.
