An adviser to the Belarus defence minister on Friday refused to substantiate or deny whether or not Russian tactical nuclear weapons had been saved at a facility at Osipovichi in central Belarus.
“Perhaps the CIA thinks that; I don’t know what that’s based on,” Leonid Kasinsky mentioned when requested by Reuters if the weapons had been saved at an set up east of Osipovichi.
“No one is ever going to tell you where the tactical nuclear weapons are stationed – you should understand that.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko have mentioned that Russia has already transferred some tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus in what Putin referred to as a transfer to discourage the West from making an attempt to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia.
Nuclear analysts on the Federation of American Scientists mentioned on June 30 that new satellite tv for pc photos confirmed the development of a double-fenced safety perimeter at a weapons depot close to Osipovichi. They mentioned Osipovichi was the deployment space for Iskander SS-26 missiles, able to carrying nuclear warheads, that Russia equipped to Belarus in 2022.
However, they mentioned they might not verify at this level that the positioning was “intended for or will definitively be used to store Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus”.
