China’s FM Qin Gang replaced by Wang Yi after media disappearance

China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang was faraway from workplace Tuesday, state media reported, after not being seen within the public eye for a month.

“China’s top legislature voted to appoint Wang Yi as foreign minister … as it convened a session on Tuesday,” state media outlet Xinhua stated.

“Qin Gang was removed from the post of foreign minister.”

The report didn’t give a cause for Qin’s removing however stated President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to enact the choice.

Qin had been seen as a confidant of Xi and lots of analysts attributed his current quick rise by the diplomatic ranks to their relationship.

China has remained tight-lipped for weeks concerning the destiny of Qin, who has not been seen in public since June 25 when he met Russia’s deputy international minister Andrey Rudenko in Beijing.

His absence sparked a storm of hypothesis that he had been faraway from workplace or was topic to an official investigation.

Qin’s duties had recently been taken on by China’s high diplomat Wang, who leads the ruling Communist Party’s international coverage and outranks Qin within the authorities hierarchy.

Qin had changed Wang as international minister in December final 12 months.
