EU police nab Balkans’ top drug lords after probe into phones

The prime drug lords within the Western Balkans have been arrested following an investigation into encrypted telephones, Europol stated Thursday.

Europol stated in an announcement that on May 11, coordinated raids have been carried out in Serbia and within the Netherlands to focus on a cartel’s management and distribution infrastructure.

“A total of 23 individuals have been arrested, including the 3 leaders of this criminal organization, considered as High Value Targets by Europol,” stated the assertion.

Seven different members of this legal group have been already arrested in Belgium in 2021.

Two people have been beforehand arrested for different offenses in Serbia and Peru.

Another suspect was arrested within the Netherlands on May 8.

Serbian authorities seized belongings to the tune of 5 million euros ($5.44 million).

During the operations, 15 high-end automobiles and luxurious jewellery and watches have been seized in 35 home searches.

Also, police items captured weapons and explosives together with two sniper rifles, three automated rifles, weapons, silencers, 24 detonator capsules and 5 units for distant initiation of detonators, 13 packages of plastic explosives, and a number of other hundred items of ammunition.
