Freight train carrying grain derails in Crimea, says official

A freight practice carrying grain in Crimea derailed on Thursday, stated the Russian-appointed head of the area, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.

Sergey Aksyonov stated in a press release on Telegram that no casualties had been reported within the incident, and that the motion of electrical trains on the Simferopol-Sevastopol railway line has been suspended.

The Russia-administered railway firm within the area claimed in a separate assertion on Telegram that the freight practice derailed because of the “intervention of unauthorized persons.”

Meanwhile, Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence, claimed that the practice can also have been carrying heavy weapons and navy tools resulting from which the tracks broke.

On Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan introduced that the Black Sea grain deal, additionally known as the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was set to run out on May 18, was prolonged for 2 months.

Türkiye, the UN, Russia and Ukraine initially signed the settlement in Istanbul final July to renew grain exports from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports, which had been halted after the Russia-Ukraine conflict started in February 2022.

The deal has been prolonged thrice because it was first signed for 120 days. It was first prolonged in November 2022 after which in March.
