At least 60 civilians have been killed on Friday in northern Burkina Faso by individuals carrying the uniforms of the Burkinabe armed forces, based on native prosecutor Lamine Kabore on Sunday.
The killings occurred within the city of Ouahigouya, which is situated within the Yatenga Province of northern Burkina Faso. The victims have been reportedly unarmed civilians who have been attending a funeral.
The Burkinabe authorities has condemned the killings and has vowed to convey the perpetrators to justice. However, the killings have raised questions in regards to the safety scenario in Burkina Faso and the flexibility of the federal government to guard its residents.
Kabore mentioned an investigation had been launched after the assault on the village of Karma in Yatenga province within the borderlands close to Mali, an space overrun by terrorist teams linked to al-Qaida and Daesh which have carried out repeated assaults for years.
