Gunmen kill 1, wound 8 others at shrine in Iran’s Shiraz

At least one individual was killed and eight others injured late Sunday when two gunmen opened hearth at a shrine in southern Iran’s Shiraz.

The armed assailants opened indiscriminate hearth on the entrance of the Shah Cheragh shrine ensuing within the demise of a guard, the governor’s workplace and shrine officers advised state-run IRIB news.

The attackers have been international nationals, reported Nour News, which is affiliated with Iran’s high safety physique, citing an unnamed supply.

An earlier report by state news company IRNA had mentioned 4 individuals have been killed within the assault.

Iran’s state TV cited BBC as saying that Daesh claimed duty for the assault.

Gen. Bo Ali, the Revolutionary Guard commander in Fars province, of which Shiraz is the capital, advised state TV that the assailant who was taken into custody was carrying a rifle and eight magazines, including that the state of affairs was at the moment underneath management.

President Ebrahim Raisi has requested the Interior Ministry and the provincial governor’s workplace to “quickly identify all the perpetrators” of the assault, in response to state media.

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi instructed the provincial governor of Fars to research “the terrorist incident.”

Second assault on shrine

The Twelfth-century shrine, which homes the grave of a revered Shia scholar, is a well-liked vacation spot for native and international vacationers.

In July, Iranian judicial authorities publicly executed two males over involvement within the assault.
