A blast rocked an optical-mechanical manufacturing facility within the city of Sergiev Posad, 50 km (30 miles) northeast of Moscow, on Wednesday, injuring not less than 16 folks, TASS cited emergency providers as saying.
It mentioned the blast appeared to have occurred in a warehouse containing pyrotechnic gear. The well-liked on-line news channel Mash mentioned the warehouse had been rented by a pyrotechnics agency.
Unverified footage on social media confirmed an enormous column of smoke, and high-rise buildings with home windows blown out.
The facility was being evacuated, TASS mentioned.
The manufacturing facility in Sergiev Posad produces optical gear, with the Russian safety forces amongst its purchasers.
However, TASS cited emergency providers as saying they didn’t suspect that the blast had been attributable to a Ukrainian drone assault – lots of which have taken place in Moscow and the encircling space in current weeks and months.
