Germany and the U.S. condemned North Korea’s current ballistic missile launch, as they urged Pyongyang to finish destabilizing actions.

Germany’s international ministry strongly condemned the missile launch on Wednesday, calling it “illegal” and a menace to worldwide peace and safety.

“We call on DPRK (North Korea) to fully comply with its obligations under Security Council resolutions,” the ministry mentioned on Twitter.

North Korea fired a suspected intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) off its east coast on Wednesday that flew for 74 minutes, mentioned Japan’s chief cupboard secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, in what could be the longest-ever flight time for a North Korean missile.

The United States mentioned Wednesday it “strongly condemns” North Korea’s newest launch of a long-range ballistic missile and urged Pyongyang to finish its destabilizing actions and are available to the desk for negotiations.

“This launch is a brazen violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions and needlessly raises tensions and risks destabilizing the security situation in the region,” National Security Council spokesperson Adam Hodge mentioned in a press release.

South Korea’s navy mentioned North Korea fired a long-range ballistic missile in a lofted trajectory from the Pyongyang space at about 10:00 am (0100 GMT), simply days after Pyongyang threatened to down US spy planes that violated its airspace.

Relations between the 2 Koreas are at one in every of their lowest factors ever, with diplomacy stalled and North Korean chief Kim Jong Un calling for elevated weapons growth, together with tactical nukes.

The newest take a look at launch “demonstrates that the DPRK continues to prioritize its unlawful weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs over the well-being of its people,” Hodge mentioned.

“We urge all countries to condemn these violations and call on the DPRK to come to the table for serious negotiations,” the spokesman added.

“The door has not closed on diplomacy, but Pyongyang must immediately cease its destabilizing actions and instead choose diplomatic engagement,” he continued, stressing the United States will “take all necessary measures” to make sure its safety and that of its allies South Korea and Japan.
