US House Speaker McCarthy has introduced he would meet Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday as China warned the US by saying it’s “playing with fire” over Tsai’s journey.

McCarthy, the top Republican in Congress, had earlier vowed to follow Democrat Nancy Pelosi, whom he succeeded as speaker, by traveling to Taiwan.

Republican US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stated he would meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California on Wednesday, a transfer China stated can be a provocation.

“On Wednesday, April 5, Speaker Kevin McCarthy will be hosting a bipartisan meeting with the President of Taiwan at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library,” his workplace introduced in an announcement on Monday.

China has warned the United States that it’s “playing with fire” over the journey by Tsai, who’s in New York on what’s formally a transit stopover on her technique to Latin America.

She will cease in California on her approach again and meet McCarthy, his assertion stated, whereas US media reported that round 20 US lawmakers deliberate to accompany the speaker.

‘Middle floor’

China in August carried out main navy workouts round Taiwan, a self-governing island it claims as a part of its territory awaiting reunification.

McCarthy, the highest Republican in Congress, had earlier vowed to observe Democrat Nancy Pelosi, whom he succeeded as a speaker, by touring to Taiwan. 

The assembly in his house state of California had been considered as a center floor that might keep away from inflaming tensions with China.
